I dropped my temp from 86 to 80 and thats constant temp, it does not fluctuate.



I dont think its absurd, there are many possibilities!! but it good to see some negativity. I have been running my tank for 4.5 years at 86 degrees and have never encountered itch.



Thanks for the input Richard, its interesting to see how people try to entice their females to drop their pups. Dont you think that it would be better to let the female go full term on her own instead of interfearing with the temps? i have no experience in keeping black rays but i understand that their pregnancy term is longer than motoro, is this true? I let my female drop when she is ready and keep my tank at a constant temp, i keep a good supply of a variety of foods going in and keep a close eye on my water parameters.
Im not saying that it is true of all species im just wondering if the temp makes a difference in rays as no one has asked the question before. I think its a legitimate question that needs some answers.
As for the florida v alaska thing now thats absurd lol.
I dont think i'll be around for the next 20 years so that buggers me up dont it.

what happens if a human baby goes over due the bring the baby out with drugs

after 100 days the only reason the female could be holding on to the pups is because she is waiting for the rainy season nothing more when the pups have more chance of living

i have had one litter of premature pups and the only reason i can see why that happened was i was doing normal water changes and done a large WC the pups were in the tank the next morning

i dont have this problem now as i only have changes in temp when i want the
the last batch i had was 3 pups and she went 125 days with no change in temp the 3 pups grew so big that one of the pups tails was bent and twisted this may not of happend if they were born at 100 days

the batch i just hat the peps were born 100 days at 6 inch disk which is large for a 13inch female if she had gone 125 days i think they could have done her internal damage
 
Leopard geckos for instance change sex due to temps, I think alligators do too. Many reptiles do this, I don't know why but it is proven, I don't see what one jungle species should differ so much to something aquatic. It is interesting and I am open minded until proven right or wrong.

My gut feeling is that it would not change things, again, don't know why.

After all a tank full of female swords can generate a male, you would bet against it but it does happen.

all the reptules you mentioned are egg layer and temp does have a effect live barers are different

like my example all human babys born in alaska would be female and all born in florida would be male if the temp affected live barers

My son was 3 weeks over due and nearly died in my wifes womb!! the only way he was coming into this world was with a c-section not with drugs, thats not to say that drugs are not used in some cases but not all as there are alternative methods.

Doing the water changes makes sence, my pups are usually born at 95 days and none had yolk sacks, the last litter went 115 days so nearly 3 weeks over but they were all fine and were out in a few minutes.

I was'nt dissing your methods Richard just questioning why you do it the way you do so that i can learn from your experience.
