does the law stop you from buying fish?

Luckily NJ only has 1 fish cause I'm sure anything you release into our waters won't survive (due to pollution for those who won't get it.)

Anyway, just don't post up pics with your face next to it and talk it about it online and you'll be fine.

I think the term "cop" is being applied to F&W guys. They are after all law enforcement officers.

My comment about them patrolling boards is from first hand knowledge. No, it's not what I do. But I have worked with several officials in the past in confirming ID's on fish. F&W broke up a pretty large Asain Arow importer in Texas while I was there. One grab got them 50 animals. They found him via a fish forum.

Cops are everywere, but we speed, drink and drive, dont use seatbelts, violate weapons laws, steal and use drugs...
If anyone goes down for a fish and im not sayint it doesn't happen ,its just another bad roll of the dice, chasing fate...

Strange, I don't drink & drive, I use my seat belt, don't have illegal weapons, nor do I steal or take drugs.. Speed, now I do that sometimes, perhaps one day it will be behind your drunk, stoned, unbelted, speeding ***, with a trunk load of stolen property, and illegal weapons ...

I believe the term you are looking for is lucky enough, not smart enough...

As a moderator on another forum, I can vouch that federal and state wildlife/game agencies do in fact monitor online forums for transactions involving illegal wildlife. I've personally been contacted by and spoken to a USFWS Law Enforcement agent regarding their concerns regarding online forum transactions.

bit of both really, smart enough not to do the silly crimes, only petty and stupid ones you see kids doing.

living in a small town you tend to be able to get away with a bit, as long as you know the boundries. ie what the cops will tolarate before kicking your *** to jail.

i got older and wider.... i mean wiser, and no i wouldn't own illegal fish, i have a family to think of.

Lil_Stinker...   You are too funny! Thoughtful replies!

I know that many nice fish are sold in the pet industry that are legal, if they are illegal to own there has to be a reason for it....so I researched a little to find out WHY they are illegal.

My 2 cents: Purchasing illegals of any species only promotes the further imminant extinction of the fish in question. Many, many fish die before reaching a potential buyer and they are harvested in crazy, destructive ways with no regard to the beauty of life. Unfortunately "illegal" is normally associated with "risk" and further associated with "more money" and "reason for the harvester to kill and destruct" to wit: all of the above constributes to the eradication of a species sought after to get a :headbang2 or a  when in all actuallity the only thing I see is a greedy :naughty: sheepish grin. It can be determined that if anyone gets off on owning or distributing illegal fish that are endangered than really that person is a moron and needs to get a life.
Furthermore, I would hope...no expect...that F&W would patrol forums. Seems logical to me.

does the law stop any of you from buying the fish that you want? it wouldnt stop me, cops arent going to come in your house and look at your fish and be smart enough to know which ones are legal or not.

Right now because you are young, it is natural to have a sense of immortality and being above the law. They both go hand in hand. It is also typical of people your age to feel they know everything there is to know. In ten years, you will refer to people your current age as "young and stupid" and for good reason. Only until you get into the real world will you begin to learn lifes many lessons.

And in both the US and Canada, Fish & Game officers do not need a warrant to enter your house. Think about that.

Just want to say...before the flaming I am about to receive for my previous post...that I know lots of people have illegals. It's just that if you have the time to research exactly WHY they are illegal you can better understand. Laws are based off the professionals that research and track wild fish populations. It's not like they sit around and say...let's make this fish illegal. There is a reason for it...whole ecosystems can be wiped out for a measily several hundred bucks. Then people pay the big bucks for them when they reach the illegal black market. Not worth it IMO.
