Wait, you are running Vista?
 
That is your hard drive space. I am talking about your RAM. You can also see how much memory all your programs are taking up by right clicking your task bar and selecting Task Manager. If you sort by memory descending you will see what is taking up so much memory. If it isn't needed you can always end the process.

are u restricted to what sites u can go on though, personally i think firefox is much faster and easier to use

lol no. Firefox is a memory hog. If you are running an already slow machine it is stupid to recommend switching to it.
 
i got slow machine, well was ok but needs upgraded, but ff never hogs my ram
