Does this look like death curl...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sorry to hear but do not get discouraged,
I almost did when I almost lost all 3 rays in one night.

My rays survived by some miriacle I hope yours pulls through as well

I did a water change an hour ago and tested the water again. It is 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10-20 nitrate (the colors look very similiar on the chart), ph is 7.5, tested with aquarium pharmaceutical test kit.
I'm planning on doing 25% daily water changes but don't want to stress them.

Dont change everyday, it will just stress the fish,i would leave it alone for 2-3 days, then change water again, for me i think its better to take larger changes insted of alot of small once, you just stress the fish once every 3 day, insted of everyday.. I also fill my tank while i tap it, so the fish dont even notice, the bad thing about this is that you have to change a bigger amount of water since you also tap new water out!! I wish you all the best with the rays!! how is the others doing?:)

I have some sad news to report. The female did not make it. I checked on her this morning and her entire disc was curled....:(

Thanks for the water change advice Tor_Erik, I'll do it every 2-3 days.
Also, thanks everyone for all the wonderful advices, I know what not to do in the future now.

I'll start a new thread to keep you guys updated on the remaining 5 hystrix.

This week is not going very well for me or my hystrix. I just lost another pair. Found both of them with death curl. I did a 25% water change then tested the water again. Still came out to 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 20 nitrate. Temp is at 81deg and pH at 7.5.

I can't believe how sensitive these little guys are.
For those who purchased these little hystrix, are you guys still keeping the tank completely covered? And if so, for how long?

I've had my tank completely covered for 3 days now to reduce stress but something is killing them off.
