Does this look normal (FX5)?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do use the filter pads but only because I clean my FX5's every few wks. You don't really need the polishing pads but sponge pads come in handy because they work as biological filtration. If they're too thick (over 1/2" or so) it'll slow the flow though so I'd pull them in half (if possible) and just use 1/2 of it.

I have no kinks... everything is good... Only thing Im thinking is my Pads... I have one on the top basket on top of my Bio Balls and one on the bottom basket under my ceramic rings... Do u think this is y (2 sponges total in the FX5)?

Two should be fine. Just make sure they're washed clean. Also, make sure there's no dead fish or a pebble got stuck inside your hose.

I clean everything out every week... nothing in the hoses (Already checked last night)

Cant understand it?
Its been like this since I got it (maybe a month or two), just always thought thats how it ran... till I got curious last night doing a W/C

You might have to much media in it. I've done it a few times I took one out cleaned it really good added some extra media and put it back under the tank. The next thing I knew I didn't want to push any water.

So what I would do if I were you is take it out from under the tank. Take out all pads and just leave the foam blocks. And if you have it stuffed with chem or bio media take some out. and then try it again.

No way is that normal! I think your fx5 needs a GOOD CLEAN! Also if your using the polishing pads White/blue remove them as they are worthless! Make sure the sponges/media are rinsed out, give the hosing a good clean, also clean the impeller and you should be good to go! I think after this you will see a big difference in flow/output.

:iagree:

Yep...and to see if it's dirty.

Koop had a good idea. How about taking ALL of the media out and run it for a minute or 2 to see if the flow is stronger. If it is then you know the problem is too much media concentrated together. Maybe the bio balls with the sponge right on top is too much too close together. I have about 1 1/2" ceramic noodles in 2 of the baskets and a 1/2" sponge in the bottom basket.
