Does this look normal (FX5)?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright... i did the impeller, the hoses, wiped down the Orings, cleaned the baskets, sponges, media, canister.... the power in the outlet is still the same. There is no microbubbles (So far)

Any other ideas?

If it's not been asked how long are your return/ inlet lines? They say in the booklet to not let them get to long or it will not work right. but it's pretty long before It's An issue If I remeber right.

oh man run it without media and see how the flow is. once again check the valves to ensure that they are opened all the way. look inside them.

I have the X5 on the left side of my 8' tank... where the outlet goes straight up... the inlet is on the far right side and it is on a angle all the way to the Canister.. no kinks or any extra hose (I cut some off when I connected the outlet)

did you pull all the baskets out and run it empty? when i have my water level low like that the FX5 is shooting water clear across the tank, there is something clogging the flow

I took out the impeller and cleaned all the alge...cleaned the entire canister with the motor not attached by hand pretty much. I ran the canister with no media or blue sponges... I rinsed all the hoses out and stuck a hanger thru them and nothing was in there (atleast nothing came out...). I even put glue at all the ends of the tube (probly what stopped the micro bubbles :) )

I will try to run it tonight with nothing inside it... just water

One of mine is just the opposite. It's on the left end of an 8' tank but the intake is straight up from the filter and the outlet is at the other end. Possibly (? I don't know) it could have something to do with the filter having to pump the water in from 8' away). But run it without any media at all and see what happens. That will at least tell you whether it's media related.

Exactly. Let us know how this works out.

Whats up eric

you gotta make sure the connectors for the intake is completely submerged or air-tight..

If its not.. the fx5 is sucking in air which is causing the low flow and probably some gurgling noise from the filter..

I had the same problem while doing a water change. I didn't fill the tank back up completely and what is happening to you pretty much happened to me. It was frustrating the living sh*t out of me..
