Never been a big fan of canopys. Esp on ray tanks since there is always something to do in one..
But the closer I get this tank to being finished, the more I keep thinking it might look good with a canopy.
So I posted a POLL above. Please vote.
leave comments below. :)

Have alot of ideas in my head on how to build it.
Since my wife feeds the rays and fish most of the time, Ill need to make it easy to get into.
Also the openings are in the middle and since we have a Aro, they have to stay covered..
Have alot of ideas on how to design it so it will allow easy access to the tank, but thats another post in the DYI section later.

So, take the POLL above and let me know what you think.
thanks

Looks like I am the lone no so far. Never a big fan of them tank looks great though. If anything I would get better fitting lighting. I think that is an 8 footer so maybe 2 4 footers instead of the one 6 footer

I agree with you to a point, either canopy or have some nice looking fixtures suspended from the ceiling!

Well the light is the reason I am thinking of puting a canopy on the tank. Besides the fact the tank keeps telling me it would look good. But again, Im not a big fan of canopy's. Never have been. had them on some of my saltwater tanks and they didnt last long on there. Main thin was access to the tank.

But back to the light. I already had this light and I know a 8 foot would look much better on here and that is an option I may do if I dont do a canopy.
The light has a built in timer. Since Im gone alot and have to rely on my wife to at least feed the tanks, she is not so good at a lighting schedule. She forgets or honestly doesnt ever even think about it. its why all my tanks, salt and fresh have times on them.
This light was an extra I had around the house. Its a Aquatic Life fixture and I really like the built in timer option for all the different lights. Actinics, whites and moon lights. I know I can get two 4 foot one for this tank, thats just more money though. (alot more, $325.00 each my cost for the same brand)
Since I have not decided on the lighting yet, I stayed with just using this fixture for now. I can hang lights in this house. Would look like crap. My ceilings are way to tall for that and I dont want to do the bracket thing. So hanging in not an option.
Thats were the canopy came into play. With this tank, the openings are in the middle of the tank to access it. That with a canopy would make it hard to access unless I built it like I have in mind. Or just leave it, get an 8 foot fixture of some kind if I can and move on.
Cant decide...

If its a nice tank I do not think a top is needed. Still need some type.of lid covering but no canopy.

That is a great light, I know marineland has built in timers on some of their LED strips now and they would be a bit more affordable since your not running a reef tank and don't really need the watts.

I really like the shimmer effect the LEDs provide and not replacing bulbs and saving money on the electric bill is pretty nice too

It is a very nice tank and I am sure it will look great whatever route you take

What if you framed something around the top like a trim that was tall enough to hide the light but completely open at the top. It could sit on the edges of the tank leaving the middle open. Might accomplish both objectives.
