In keeping with JD7.62's original "Does your Armatus do this?" thread, I have uploaded a new video of the same fish.

His back is fully healed, and the new scales are starting to develop quickly and are covering the scarred area up. Cool.

I have started to add a little Zoe Garlic Extreme to the bag of raw shrimp while it's still frozen, even though he's already obsessed with the shrimp. I'm just trying to get him further addicted. I then stuff the shrimp with Hikari Cichlid Gold, Bio Gold+, and Sinking Carnivore pellets. Usually about 8 medium and mini sized pellets per shrimp.

Depending on the size of the shrimp I feed him, he'll eat 1-2 every day of the week.

Right now he's still in the 75 gallon quarantine tank until his back heals. I simply am not risking moving him until the scales are fully back in place.

If you look close you can see the huge corydoras costatus hunkered up inside the piece of driftwood.

Enjoy.

Those are some mean teeth haha. I have seen pictures of these fish but never knew what they where, I can only assume there is no hand feeding going on there :grinno:

Also, of note: His tail is really showing a reddish brown color all over it, and most of his other fins are a relatively bright yellow.

How'd you get him on shrimp?

my armatus didnt take any shrimp yet, 40 day already
your armatus look really happy with shrimp,

Man that is so awesome. If I could have gotten mine to eat shrimp like that I would have kept him for sure.

what is Zoe Garlic Extreme?

It is a garlic liquid that you soak foods in. Fish are highly attracted to garlic. The main reason for this is to get fish that are sick, new to a tank, or dying to eat. The garlic smell helps attract them to the food.

In my case I just wanted to use it to help him get even more addicted to the shrimp, because eventually he's going in a massive tank, and I'd like to get a smaller shoal of red hook, giant danios, or some other larger dither shoal in with him, without fearing he'll start munching them and not accept frozen shrimp anymore.

Cali, Jason (JD7.62) did that for me before I bought this particular fish. I paid a massive premium for this fish for that very reason.

Search some of JD's started threads and you'll find how he did it. Basically just simulated live food with the shrimp, using a fishing line.

When I took the fish home, that's what I also did, to ensure there wouldn't be a bad transition.

Thanks Chris, I'm pumped to hear that coming from you.

I love this fish so much. You gave yours to Li, correct? Has he had any luck at all?
