I have some big boys that are just eating a ton, and are costing a lot of $$$. I was wondering if I can incorporate dog food into their diet. I've heard of people doing this but want some opinions. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
It depends wut fish u r feeding the dog food to. If it was a catfish or carp/koi than u r fine. I would just look at the ingedients and just remember to keep the mammal meat at a minimum cuz its not got for fish
Dog food is for dogs. Have you looked into buying bulk amounts of fish food? 5 pound buckets of NLS go for $55 and will probably last a long time. You can feed less with a high quality food too.
If you bought the 4L tub of large NLS food it should last you well over a year. unless you are over feeding like crazy. Like aclockworkorange said a good quality food you need to feed less of. One thing most people dont relieze is that most fish have a stomach thats about the size of their eye. even though they can eat far far more. It isn't always healthy for them. That is why 90% of fish owners over feed. If you dont believe me go catch a fish and gut it and look at the size of its stomach. I've pulled in a 17 inch small mouth bass that ate a 11 inch catfish and his stomach was about golf ball size. Fish are like little kids infront of a cake.....
i dont overfeed them, they have a 240g to themselves, gives them plenty of room to grow. Looks like bulk buying is the way to go, thanks for all who helped
If you're really serious about this hobby, be prepared to $pend money. There are practical ways like mentioned above and feeding them dog food is not one of those. The enjoyment and satisfaction I get from this hobby outweighs the labor and money spent on it.
fish do not process terrestrial animal fat well. It can ruin their liver. At farm supply store there are any number of bulk catfish, bluegill or trout foods sold in bulk with very modest pricing.
