Seriously? Dog food? You can't afford to feed three cichlids?

I didn't reply to this thread because it's been done to death, but I was thinking the same thing when I read it, you can't feed three fish!

i dont overfeed them, they have a 240g to themselves, gives them plenty of room to grow. Looks like bulk buying is the way to go, thanks for all who helped

Tank size has nothing to do with overfeeding fish. As previously mentioned, look into buying FISH FOOD in bulk. Lay off the dog food.

Cat food is better .. the owner at the lfs feeds his cichlids, etc.. in his 300 gallon tub cat food all the time.

^^^Check this out. And cat food isn't a good choice either. Cat and dog foods are formulated differently than quality fish foods. Even the terrestrial food containing shrimp and fish shouldn't be fed to cichlids. It's must better to buy food in bulk if you want to save money. It really shouldn't be too expensive to feed three fish though. I have multiple fish on varied diets and food generally lasts me a good while. Even if you get a 50lb container of fish food, it can still be expensive if you feed too much and too frequently.

I don't and would never do it, but it can be done...after all cat food does contain fish you know..

I don't know what the laws regarding pets are over there.
But over here, forced cannibalism is regarded as taboo

You can also feed fish raw red meat, but that doesn't mean you should. Just because the fish will eat it doesn't mean it's healthy for them. All of these things would work for a short period of time, but internally the fish would be suffering.
