Wow that's just ridiculous. Honestly, if it came back and tried again on your dog, I would shoot it. You said in your first post it was thin so obviously even if it has tags that dog must have been missing for a while and responsible pet owners usually put up lost dog signs or even a craigslist post. Or if you want to go humanly go to tractor supply and see if you can rent a big trap and then take it to the humane society. But if you can't rent one and its still agressive shoot it, I wouldn't waste $100, because people don't know how to tank care of there pets. Also if you take it to the humane society and its aggressive there probably going to euthanize it anyways... If the owner doesn't claim it that is, which it seems to me they don't want it.

Shooting an animal should only be a last resort. The reasonable thing to do is exercise caution and handle it through the proper channels.

We had two pitbulls in our yard trying to attack our dogs. They couldnt get to them because my dogs live in a pin in our back yard. I called the police, when they got here they tazed them. They asked if we had any guns in the house. I said yes. They asked why I hadn't shot them. I told them I didn't know I could. They told me if anything is threatening you or your property on YOUR property, you can shoot it perfectly legaly. And that goes for people and animals. If it was me, that dog would be dead.

dude...you can't shoot someone even if they are on your property :screwy:

and if it was you...you'd be in trouble

just wait see if it comes back again...

and IF you decide to shoot it ask the police or animal control for premission

it's different in each state. some states you could defend yourself with lethal force if believe your life/property was threatened (look it up, Castle Law Doctrine). but in states like California, if you shoot an intruder in your house in the middle of the night, youre most likely getting locked away for a long time :screwy:

I'm a pit owner and an all around animal lover so of course I feel really bad for this dog. For all we know it could be the first time he ever escaped and could just be young and not taught obedience or properly sociallized so that is why I say killing it should be a last resort. I don't think it's fair to give him the ultimate punishment unless you don't have another choice. The benydrl is a good idea! We used to give that to a terrier we had during thunderstorms cause he was a spaz. It might not be good for him to give him a ton but it's definatly better for him than a bullet to the head.

It's sad that the animal control isn't being more helpful. Most animal control officers really don't care at all in my experience.

All that being said you have to do what you have to do to protect your family. I would put the meat out with the benadryl and see what happens. I wouldn't wait until you see him again to put the drugged meat out though. If the dog is already skittish of you he might come around at night when no one is out and eat it. Then you could tie him up and call animal control. It just makes me worried that while everyone is waiting for someone else to do something and the dog is able to jump fences no one is really safe. Someones little chihuahua might end up disappearing, especially if the dog has been loose for a while and is hungry.

it sucks things like this give the breed a bad name. shooting may be going to far but there is always bear mace one shot and i don't think it would come back
