Doing a Water Change Without De-Chlorinator?!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ask him to sell the tank too you.

It all depends on what you get out of the tap. When I lived in Killeen TX, I couldn't even do a 5 gallon change on my 29 gallon without dechlorinator.

Now I inject my own bleach into the water. I add 100 gallons of water to my 579 gallon tank every day at ~4GPH. Not a drop of dechlorinator is needed.

the nice way to say it is its not too smart :D
why risk it.....

I know someone who adds 5-10G of fresh tap water at a time to his tank!!

Is this safe for the fish?? I mean they are still alive but... wow!!

When I cleaned his tank for him the other day,(it hadn't been cleaned in over 3 mos!)he kept telling me it was normal to do . He doesn't let it sit out 24-48 hrs to disperse the chlorine, either. He adds it straight from the tap!

I believe the only set back to adding tap water without it being dechlorinated is killing off your bacteria. If the tank is large enough, it may not make a huge difference ...depending on how much you add.

You are completely right about that, I don't add anything to my tap water and I do 40% water changes every Wednesday (100 galon tank).

I have done this without loosing a fish for many years now.

does not mean its best for the fish...........:)

^x2

declor like prime and stress coat is only like $6 anyways...shoot i got a gallon of stress coat for $20 and it lasted me a long time.

why would you risk potentially hundreds of dollars in living fish for a 10 dollar jar of declor unless you are on well or spring water?
also prime and the like are good to have in case of emergency to detox nitrogen spikes if something happens to your biofilter
