Doing a Water Change Without De-Chlorinator?!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I honestly wouldn't be caught dead putting in non de-chlorinated water into my tank.

Though some people will do it, I've seen people who had the de-chlorinator chemical into the python tube just before dispensing the water into the tank. Everyone's got it different I guess.

As for me, I don't wait 24-48 hours, for me I just let it sit in my 35 gallon trash can for about an hour. I close the lid and it warms up a little so it helps out the de-chlorinator a lot.

I use Prime, but its really not that big of a deal usually. As soon as the water is not under pressure anymore the chlorine disperses rapidly. Also remember this is potable/ drinkable water we're talking about not a cup of bleach. If you cant smell any chlorine in your tap water, its safe for the tough fish we're usually talking about.

Sometimes I don't because I just drip in the water replacement, I just leave the hose on and it drips in the water basically 10-12 hours. I believe the drip dissipates some of the chlorine, the slowness of the chlorinated water entering the pond/tank also gives the current water time to "fix" the water coming in.

Although at times, I occasionally also squirt some dechlor into the area where the water is dripping.
