75 Gal is way too small to house two jaguar cichlids.

it might be .. if they where full grown .. but since there not .. its ok ..

and they are moving up to the 130 .. when the ray tank is ready to go ..

you can talk to anyone who knows me .. not only do i know a thing or two about keeping fish .. i am far from scum .. and if you hate me so much .. why dont you just stop posting in my threads ... get a life ...and flame someone else ...

Did I misunderstand you to say that you were going to leave the injured female to get killed? If I did I apologize but my point still stands for whomever willingly allows that to happen.

she is not with the male .. she was being kept in a holding area away from him until she heals up ... just as the pics show .. which i have hosted here and another site and posted from both since people are having a problem seeing them ..

and she is being treated with melafix and the water is being checked daily to make sure the water is clean for the best healing environment ...

also she is active and eating well .. which is a good sign for a healthy fish ... maybe if you spent more time reading and less time assuming that you know better then anyone else and flaming ... you would have seen that..

and fyi .. the water is 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and 15ppm nitrates

I'm not sure what you said back since it was deleted but I'll take the first step here and apologize for my wise crack. It was out of line but you shocked me when you said you only do water changes every six months. It made me think of my fish's waste output and I imagined a dark murky nasty stanky dirty watered tank. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't keep your fish like that and I'm also pretty sure you wouldn't leave your female to die a horrible death by the male. I hope she has a speedy recovery. When my female Festae was wounded like that, Modest Man had me remove her from the tank and put Neosporin on the wound. Sounds weird but it worked pretty good, she healed up quickly. GL

FYI .. i have the jags to as a breeding project to feed to my oscars ..

they make some of the best feeders around .. look it up ..

Well we don't do that. Must explain everything first before jumping into everything or people get everything all wrong. I'd rather breed convicts as feeders. A lot of sites doesn't cover everything...

My question for the OP, is how big are these fish? For a year old she looks small. Female or not, she's a Jag, she's going to be over 10 inches. Also in this year that you've had them, have they ever spawned once? I also have a very hard time believing that your nitrAtes are less than 20 ppm with how often you do your water changes. What do you use to test your water?

I have to agree, she looks tiny for being over a year old. 2 Jags in a 75g for over a year. Water changes every 6 mths and nitrates under 20ppm? Just looking at the food and crap floating around in the pics in this thread alone tells me this isn't possible. I too would like to know if they have ever bred before as jags breed like rabbits. If they haven't, it is more than likely water quality. What test kit are you using? Maybe a new one is order?

That is a nasty wound. In addition to daly wc, you should do somthing to help speed up the healing prosess and prevent a secondary fungal infection. I saw where Balton mentioned neosporin, which is good however I have also used Iodine applied directly to the wound in this situation with excelent results.

I would not try introducing your female back into that tank. A Jags aggresion is based on terratory, being an ambush peditor they stake out their claim and defend it against all comers, especially conspicifics which they view as direct commpatition for food. 75 gals or more importantly 4ft is not enough room for them as they are not a pair and the male is more interested in defending his turf. Let her heal and rehome her. IMO would be the best option. Use Convects if you want to breed feeders and set up a 20 you'll have all you want, or use livebearers such as platys, mollies or swardtails, they will give you larger feeders right off the bat. GL
