What is the best external hang on box type filter? I have a 90 gallon tank and I'm tired of laying down good money on canisters that work great for a couple months then **** the bed. So far I have had: Fluval 404, Marineland magnum 350, and Im about to junk Rena Filstar Xp4. Had the fluval 404 first and it lasted 2 years after it broke I said I wouldnt buy another fluval but as it turns out it lasted far longer than the others at only 2 years!! So Im done with canisters and want to go back to the simplicity of the external box. Any suggestions? Also is it better to have 1 big box filter or 2 smaller ones, need to over filter as my fish are messy.

for hob filters I have to agree The ac110 is a great filter. I have a couple ac110's and they out perform my marineland emperor 400.

BTDT, laying on my side to service my cans.
Went back to HOB only to get the noise caused by inferior components used in impeller systems.
Tried at least one of each major player in HOB.
Now run a pair of HOT250 magnums and couldn`t be happier.
One runs the micron cartridge/sponge cover and tank clarity is spot on, crystal. I get about a week before needing to swap out the cartridge with one that has been cleaned.
The other has the media cage/sponge cover only. It gets cleaned every 2 weeks, or there abouts, and traps a great deal of gunk.
At $50 a pop, these boys are a bargain for what they do for my 55g.

There isn`t a lick of Bio specific media.
Believe it or not, water parameters stay at 0 for ammonia and nitrite.
i run eheims on all my tanks and on my 125 and 135 i run eheim and ac 110s. this has been the best combination i could come up and and i am extremely happy with the results
