Man, I am sorry (and pissed!) to hear about this! It seems everyday, someone is losing a tank full of fish (and in one case, the entire tank itself!) to a faulty heater. That's crazy...it's not an elaborate device. You think these big companies could make a simple product like a heater (it's water cooled for Pete's sake) with all their resources.

I am sure they have some disclaimer that their warranty will cover only the heater itself. But, with all the issues we are seeing, if someone lost $700 of personal property because of a faulty product, they should sue the morons. I know I would (even if it cost me money in the end).

The economy crisies of 2008/2009 crippled US Manufacturers. Where I work, many of our very best suppliers now operate like "Bob and Larry's Used Auto Parts". Multi-billion dollar companies are building junk...if they even get around to building it.

Damn, didn't mean to rant. Just that I put up with this type of stuff at work all day, then when I hear about some hard working guy's hobby and passion getting destroyed over a $40 piece of crap (knowing you won't get one bit of sympathy or reimbursement of any kind from them)...it sets me off.

I think those of you who have had heaters that have failed should get together and petition the respective companies to step up and take some responsibility for their products.

(By the way, on their website, under the FAQ, it says to go to your specific product to see warranty details. I did that. There are no links for warranty. Figures)

Again, sorry...and very best of luck to you.

I'm not sure what Marineland heater I had, but it was a submersible one and it failed. Luckily it didn't harm my fish. I eventually want to get my filters all switched over to Fluval/Hagen and be done with Marineland. Not too impressed with their equipment.

CLD i completely agree i mean these heaters are not cheap, when someone buys something they are figuring they will get their moneys worth and in the end are disappointed with this kind of crap. It makes me mad because i spent that money and now i doubt ill see it come back. i am also mad because i never have any luck with heaters and hoping this buy would turn my luck around and boom this happens. Very bad night here i know its a lousy 40$ but hey i could have spent that on more fish. BTW those heaters, i have two the other one seems ok but i have had them only for about two weeks and this happened.

....after reading all this I'm glad I kept the box and the receipt....mine works right know but I don't need the hassle of worrying that can pop any minute...
(I usually buy my heaters at petsmart just because is more convenient to make a return if I have to but I have the feeling that this will change)

any brand/model that you guys recommend ?

My personal favorite heater brand now is EBO-Jager. They are made in Germany and you know..."The Germans makes good stuff!" <---quote from ShamWoW Guy

PS I have been fishkeeping for over 15 years, EBO-Jager is the way to go!!! Read the package before you buy. Make sure its Made In Germany

same thing happened to mine. sounded like a gun shot went off in my plywood tank, the top blew right off and had a big crack in it. i e-mailed marineland and in about 2 weeks or so i got a replacement one from them free of charge.

OK, I have 3 Stealth Pro heaters - luckily only one actually being used, the other two are still in their boxes, so I did some digging and found this thread on another forum from back in March 2010 http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums...arineland-stealth-heaters-lot-s-effected.html
From what people are saying Marineland are aware of the problems but you have to call them - 800-322-1266 - and read off the Batch # from the back of the heater (near the top). Sounds like if you have batch # 01H31 then stop using it right away - try googleing "Marineland Lot # 01H31" - 145 hits and the first 3 pages were all people reporting exploding stealth pro heaters!
Did a check on the Better Business Bureau and they have no reported complaints for Marineland. Anyone that has problems I would say go to http://www.santabarbara.bbb.org/Business-Report/Marineland-Aquarium-Products-15000783 and file a complaint. The BBB will work with you to get something out of Marineland, they do follow up! Anyone in CA should be able to get the best response from the BBB because they always seem to do better if a complaint is filed in the State where the business is based.
