I dropped a phone in the toilet once when I was at a party. I just yanked the battery out and let it dry overnight. It was fine. Iphones don't have removable battrries though
About a month ago I was at the cell phone store doing stuff with our plan and the clerk said they actually had to replace a lot of phones because of this circulating on the internet.

Dropped my phone in the water fishing between the rocks where I couldn't immediately get it. Watched the bubbles rise slowly emptying the phone of air. Went home, i put a bunch of desiccant in a pop under a strainer, put the phone in parts in the strainer, put a lid on it. Left it for 24 hours. Pulled out like 1/2 cup of water. Phone works. Some minor long term effects such as the odd buzzing from the speaker, but for the most part it's just fine. Desiccant is cheap and good to have in the fish keeping hobby.

I dropped my current Iphone4S in a mug of water about 2 years ago. Had to replace the screen, and the speaker doesnt work (the loud speaker does). So i have to have it on speaker to take or make phone calls. Other than that, its fine 
I read on the internet that you can also do this to a cat or any pet that will fit into a microwave oven......so, it must be true
