Sorry for your loss man. The rest of us can learn two things I suppose - evaluate your QT carefully before adding the fish to your main tank, and ya, don't put off w/c's when things are bad.
You said Nitrites were at a 5, is that 5ppm or 0.5ppm? 5ppm is a huge spike for only missing a half day of w/c, even on a cycling tank.
