The only thing I have to do is give them good amounts of open sand right? Thats what I know to do at least, half of the tank is open sand at the moment.

They are together at the moment, I am thinking of taking the Ophthalmotilapia and moving them to a tank of their own. I normally keep species only tanks but in my haste I wanted to get them out of the petco water as quickly as possible.I know that my best chance of breeding them is to get them in their own tanks, I just need to set up another 55 for the trio of Ophthalmotilapia.
Okay, I just sat in there and watched these new fish for almost an hour. What i used to believe were female featherfins I now think are something completely different. I now think that I have only one featherfin which i believe is a large male. If you look back at the photos you may notice some sub adult Callochromis pleurospilus (Kabogo) or at least what I believe they are.
Give the featherfins a few days to adjust. The males will have a little more color than the fems. The really start to show color when flashing for the ladies. Mine were bought @ 2" or so. The males had slight hints of color compared to the females. Once they put on a few inches(1-1.5") you could really see the difference. The males, if more than one, will deffinately set a pecking order. That is a tell as to who the males are. They will be chasing a lot.
