Anyone who thinks they can care for a large cat for its life is kidding themselves. I dont care if you build a giant indoor pond or live in south america, forever is a long time and things change. I recently gave away a saltwater French Angle I had for 16 years, in my case forever just ended, not because I couldnt keep him any longer but because we decided to downsize the number of fishtanks. The kids are getting older and things change. My 30"+ RTC is next to go.......... Any takers :D

jmo........

bob

look around on this site there are people that add on to their house to accomodate these fish...

a few examples johnptc...arapimag...wetwiskers...myself in a few years as i am planing something along the lines of arapimag's display...

most of the kids out there get their parents to buy these fish not knowing what they are getting into...yes things can change, but if you look at the kinds of funds that are put into the construction of these additions to said homes those set ups are not going to be shut down due to people just being board of there fish witch is why 90% of the big fish that get bought are sold for...alot can upgrade, but they choose not to cause they want something diff...guys like necro and i (just to name a couple off hand) fit into the 10% were the will was there, but do to means outside their control were forced to rehome their fish...

one of my friend bought a shovel nose(don't know the species) for his 210 show and it started eating all of his african cichlids so he got rid of it within a week of buying it.

he put an amazonic fish in with africans??????:WHOA:

that kinda seems like a bad Idea africans like rocks and im gonna assume sn would like drift wood and different water conditions.

I have 2 Tiger Shovelnose cats. Both are now at about 24". Back when I first got them a long time ago (when they were about 8") I did make the mistake of having them in a tank with some young plecos and dragon gobies, and sure enough, they ate them all. lol. I was mad, but at the same time knew it was my own stupid fault. I learned my lesson on that one. lol. Now they're in my 450 gallon with much larger fish and they all get along super. I love those cats.

i have grown out many things with my africans, including tsns...everyone reads africans and freaks out...they aren't as agressive or picky as everyone thinks...

i kept my RTC in a 300g tank got him at about 3inches. had all the plans to build a massive tank for him when we bought our own house. obviously with economic condition didnt get mortgage. anyway long story short within 11 months he was 24inches and we had to trade him with a lady who had a huge tank.... still depresses me to this day loved him even though he cost an awful amount of money to keep he was perfect and beautiful have a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX9BncvemGY

This is what happened to mine...

If you're keeping it in a 210 because you're afraid it'll eat all your fish in the 450g...make sure you keep the lids closed with very heavy objects.

i have a tsn he is about 13 inches long in a 180 gallon tank
he will be moving into my 4130 gallon aquarium as soon as its all hooked up
p.s he hasn't eaten any fish and there all smaller then him ( except my gar )
