Don't trust featherfins

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My six inch one does not mess with anyone, he has on occasion let my eight inch pleco know that he is not"all that" but no issues with my pictus cats, loaches, sharks, or smaller plecos but I give them all a lot of room (450 gallons) which alleviates a great deal of aggression

I have 4, never had any issues, maybe safety in numbers? like celebrist^^ mine are also in a large (500 gal) tank.

Guess you're right convict360, my syno ripped the crap out of my 2 beautiful Pimelodus blochii's. Came home and both their fins are shredded and bloody. Trading the syno in today even though it's a beautiful fish but the aggression is too much.

Glad this was hereZ I picked up a feather fin a couple weeks ago and he's doubled his size already. He's in with a bunch of Oscars, a Rhino Pleco, a Sailfin, a couple of Bushy Nose, a handful of giant Danio, Couple Convicts, an EBJD, and a few EB Acara...

I'll let us know if he becomes the trouble maker

I find that with my feather fin, as long as he has his own hiding space, he is OK. He hangs out at the bottom of this artificial stump, and as long as nobody invades his stump area, he's very calm and not aggressive. When he does get aggressive, he doesn't even get too feisty.

Part of it may be that he was not the aggressor in the group tank I purchased him from. I always try not to get the most aggressive fish in the tank, especially if they are going in my community tank. I know that it doesn't always work out this way, but I've been having good luck selecting the more mellow of the tank residents.

Hopefully he stays placid for you, what size is he?

I think most of my problems came at night, which is when I'd wake up to all the tell-tale signs of a sundown beating.

I think it's about 5.5" already. I just got this one a couple months ago. It was already a good size.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the signs in the mornings just to be safe.

mine has never hurt anything. lays with my polys and occasionally shoals with my loaches for a few minutes.
