Fish have some feelings,but they don't seem to feel such things as shame,but they appear to feel(or at least display)such things as excitement,fear,or anger .
It should also be noted that fish can feel pain and can display behaviors associated with boredom.

Give them something to do(add a ball to big to eat,add fake plants if they like playing with them,add a bunch of water bugs to chase)

Oh yeah all species have personalities just ask members who keep cichlids lol.

bichirs and the larger spiney eels also have big personalities. My bichir likes to tease my dog and I'm working on hand feeding my fire eel

Another reason I can't wait to get a bichir, and I can currently hand feed my one African knife fish earthworms but the other is more shy
