dont trust roommate when out of town

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm going to Key West for 2 weeks in Jan. I am sooo worried about who will care for my fish. My parents and gf will be there so that's out. I might hire a service, anyone have luck with one of these?

(someone with money to sue if my fish die)

WOW THAT SUCKS!!! SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME BUT IT WAS MY MOM . SHE SAID SHE WAS FEEDING THEM BUT THEY WOULDNT STOP EATING, SO SHE KEPT FEEDING THEM AND FEEDING THEM. TANK LOOKED NASTY WHEN I GOT HOME. LOST LIKE 3 FISH.

 Sorry to hear that. Man. How can you trust someone that you do not like? But don't blame all on her. You should thanks her or anyone that helping you out with the mortgage, so that you have extra cash to maintain your fish tanks. When you ask someone to take care your fish tank , you should know they do not know your fish well like you do. No matter how well you gave out the instruction. Whenever I travel I aways think of bad thing will come to my tank, so I don't feel bad if thing do happen.:naughty:

well the trustworthy roommate was also out of town i just thought it would be easiest for the only person in the house to take care of them. all she had to do was pour the zip lock bags for that day in the tank. she must have had someone drunk over.all the fish are fine. i wanna take the top off the tank and hold her face in the water so my arowana and oscar can get her back for what happened.
better not do that it may cause ur fish to go stupid

left alone- drunk people tend to be so focused on my fish tanks..... hence no more "parties"

I was away for the weekend only to see that my one south american community tank was BUBBLING. Actual soap bubbles. Aparently my mom didnt seem to watch my little brother dump lotions and hair products in the tank. I lost ALL of my fish with the exception of one lonely corydora. I was so fuming I was speechless. Hundreds and hundreds worth of fish down the toilet, plus I had to spend hours boiling and washing everything to get rid of the residues.

When I am gone, the only rule is NO TOUCHING! I let my fish go for a couple days without food because each time I let someone care for them I always have to get the fish net out to scoop up dead ones. I dont generally go any longer then 4 days, but this year I am leaving up north for 3 months and I am actually going to let someone care for my fish in their own home. Haha, cant trust any "non-fish" people.

I have hired a petsitter (I have lots of other pets) the few times we've managed to get away. It has always worked out for me. Think of it this way -- a licensed, bonded petsitter has a lot more to lose than a roommate, or a friend. Therefore, they take more responsibility!

I just let mine fast. They naturally store more nutrirional stuff after, and get nice and chubby:D. Its much better than trusting someone dumb as bricks with them.
P.S. Evict that chick! She's to dumb to breathe!

this is the last story i want to read now that i am out of town for 3 weeks
