Your a good person veurruckte, you do something nice and get yelled at in return. People really need to learn about the fish before they buy them!!!!! Poor fishies

I second that...you ARE a good person...just because you get yelled at for it doesn't mean you aren't a good person for doing the right thing....remember that...and people REALLY should start reading up on a fish before they buy....

OK, moral reasons aside, it is a waste of money to just keep buying plecos, grow them out and then kill them, over and over. The b***h doesn't care about that because it isn't her money being spent.

Morally I think what she does is wrong, buying a fish only to kill it when it becomes an inconvenience. It is only a garbage eater to her, an excuse to not clean her tank, and not really a pet. Whatever. I dislike the woman for other reasons, the way she treats her tank is only a tiny part of that.

I've always wondered why she doesn't just A: buy a bigger tank to properly house the fish she tries to cram into her 20 gallon or B: buy a pleco suited to life in a 20 gallon that will actually eat algae (her reason for buying them) such as a bristlenose.

We all have killed fish in our tanks at sometime or another, on purpose or not. We've put them in the freezer when meds don't work, had them get bullied to death by poorly chosen tank mates, had them jump out and dry up on the floor, boiled or froze them from heater failure, poisoned them when using a garden hose to fill the tank, forgot to add the de-chlor, cut off their heads and eaten them, oh and don't forget the feeders some give to their big monsters (feeders are still fish!); you get the idea.

I guess it's like this: you don't want to kill your fish, don't. But we can't FORCE other people to stop killing their fish, all we can do is express our OPINIONS.

You (I) and all the other finger-pointing MFKers daily buy and eat meat from animals that were directly or indirectly killed at our convenience. These animals are mainly mammals or birds with highly developped nervous system and intelligence many times superior to any of the fish we keep, yet almost all are kept in inadequate conditions and suffer incomparably more then a fish possibly could.

It doesn't make torturing fish right. But it does make it look rather insignificant in comparison with all the other animal and human abuse going on.

I agree with the rest of your post including the woman being a b1tch (veuruckte cleaned her tank for free! only a b1tch would complain). I disagree with the accusation of immorality as this incidence of her behaviour is still ethically superior to that of any meat, leather etc etc consumer.

Whether or not you define something as a "pet" and assign it more rights, is not everybody's problem. Whether or not a fish is bread for food or is chosen to be loved with perverse dedication as many nerds here do, it is still the same fish. Many of the fish species used as feeders are more intelligent than the "pets" they are fed to. Where is the moral of that practice?

It is bad enough the Law of Western countries arbitrarily prohibits the consumption of canine and feline meat while allowing to abuse pigs and stuff.

It is this short-sighted pet-adoring reality-ignoring atittude that is immoral. The b1tch'es slate is spotless.

IMNSHO most fishkeepers are nerds. I was banned from oscsarfish.com for writing about an Oscar that grew to 11" in a 20g (It wasn't even my Osar. I bought it at 11" and put it in 55g.) and from another website for almost the same.

The MFK community is more openminded. Fishkeepers that are not all nerds have now their own website. As I already said, several MFK members eat their "pets" and some breed them for that purpose. If you don't like it, try your luck at a nerdier site.

Couple of things:

The b*tch in my posts refers to my father-in-law's girlfriend, and NOT the woman who's tank veuruckte cleaned. My father in law's girlfriend is the one who kills the plecos when they grow too big.

Shekes, I get what you are saying. "But it does make it look rather insignificant in comparison with all the other animal and human abuse going on." I agree. There are major human rights violations happening every minute of the day, even in the US.

People become attached to pets and those animals traditionally kept as pets (dogs and cats.) Not many people have that same connection to the chicken, pigs, and cows we eat. So I guess it is only morally wrong to kill an animal if one is emotionally invested in it.

As a side note: I think the abuse of livestock animals we see today is connected to the disappearance of the family owned farm. Now farms are more like factories, owned by corporations, and the bottom line beats out the welfare of the animals.

That maybe, but that is an intimate sphere of each individual "pet" keeper. You cannot know the emotional life of any b1tch :naughty: . That is the eternal tragedy of mankind.
It is pointless to attack the emotional life of other people. It only creates hatred.

(size changed by me)

You just did what you explained not to do because it only creates hatred:screwy: ...you attacked the emotional life of other people.....by calling them nerds and saying how it was "perverse" to love your fish with such dedication.....this is negativity and is therefore being translated by me as attacking....
