Just remember, these fish we are talking about aren't tetra's or other small fish. These guys grow to immense sizes (50 pounds is not unheard of.) And I think the tank requirements alone should be fairly large. I say keep the waste levels low, the temp should be in the mid 80's, the amount of oxygen in the water should be high due to the high temperature, and the current should be moving pretty good as i'm sure you already know that the best spots to catch them are in places where the water is moving fairly rapidly. All in all I think they are a great fish and I will probably get a few as soon as I get my 300 gallon settled in for a while and all the fish out of my 140 growout tank.

am aware these guys grow huge. thats what attractted me to these species. that and its brutal looks when they reach maturity.
im all prepered to make sure these guys get the perfect environment to live in. they will have my upmost attention. fast flowing water, correct p.h. shame the tank isnt ideal though. 280g to be exact.

I got a 3 incher right not I have him in a 265 with a gar (7inch) ploy ( 9 inches) p bass 9 4 inches) hampala barb 9 6 inches) catfish (7 inches) pink tailed chalecus (spelling) ( 5 inches) and a dat. (3 inches) So far he is fine with all of them He schools with the p bass and hampala barb (4 and 6 inches). When i first got him he was in a 15 gallon and he was beating the crap out of my corys and dats (same size as him) but as soon as i moved him to the 265 all agresstion went away im not sure if that was becuse of the bigger fish/tank. or he had someone to school with. Or some combo of the 2

Yes and no.

A few things can be said in general for all fish.

the larger the are the less of a chance of fighting b/c there is room for eveyone to establish territories. the more hiding places also will help prevent fighting.

and IMO the largest factor in keeping preds happy together is FOOD. Always feed and always keep s a vacuum in the tank Like a ray or a larger cat so if you feed heavy you know something will eat the leftovers.

that being said check out rapps for his dorado they are cheap like 35 bucks and high quality. that is where mine came from.

$35 is very cheap. thays like £18.50 in UK money. im paying £75-95 a peice for mine when my supplier gets mine. golden dorado' apparantly.
ive heard of jeff rapps in this forum and he seems like a legend over in america. but, to be honest im one of those fish keepers who never buy livestock via mail. i like to see what im buying and get face-to-face with it.
. . . maybe im being charged tooo much for my Dorado's. hmmm.
