Dorado Grow out Thread.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

Not a Dorado expert by any means but that second pic shows quite a difference in the head shape. Front ones head/snout appears longer and flatter while the one in the back appears shorter and more rounded. I am assuming the one with the Flatter head is the Frankie?
Are these from different locations or different species from the same location?

Yeah the one at the front is a frankie. I Don't know where the frankie was caught. But i believe the other two dorados were caught in Uruguay where brasiliensis is found.

That second pic is clearly distorted......

The location part is what I'm confused about. I'm under the impression that Brassys have been overfished to the point they are now under a quota for export. So they would likely have to be mislabeled in a similar fasion to P14s when the ban on blackies was lifted...... But if most of the Frankies are farm raised CBs coming out of northern Brasil then how do you get fish from Argentina mixed in, and priced the same?

Not to mention we've already assumed that one of the fish Liam has had in the past was a Brassy when small, but once grown out a bit, turned out to be a Frankie.

Like I've said in the past, I really hope it turns out to be a Brassy, but the logistics part has me scratching my head wondering how this is possible, unless the "impression" I'm under isn't true, but I'm not about to second guess anything coming from Fugupuff.

Unless I missed something, I don't recall him ever saying that the third fish that was purchased separately from the first two was from the same batch.

The dorado in question i bought separate from the others, It was in a tank full of dorados and this one just stood out for me.

Are ALL your Dorados males? All mine are.

I'm not sure I've EVER seen a female???

I got two more Dorados today both are clearly frankies both about 7 inches in length, Really neat looking!
