I'm pretty sure this was a post already but I can't find it in the search. Can 3 Dorado's co-exist in a 300 gal 8' long tank? keep in mind that the dorado's will be raised together from 3'' until... I really need some feedback to help out my choice of one or three:confused::confused::confused:

Check DBJunkie's threads, I think he has a few of them in one of his tanks.

Dorados are the only fish that interests me besides dovi.

I have considered buying another tank and getting dorados.

DB said that they get crazy territorial to each other in big tanks when there small, but right now I don't have a growout, I was going to use the 300 for growing out

They start out crazy territorial if given room. The older they get the worse it gets. IF you cram them in they always see eachother and can't get away from eachother. This way no boundries are established, no territories are claimed.

I thought this was total BS myself when I first got them, but after they started shredding eachother I was open to others' opinions. Mad ness and Channarox enlightened me..... They were totally right. It was just like a switch, 40 gallon they play nice, 300 they shredded eachother, 40 they actually healed all the lost scales and shredded fins, back to the 300 and they would chase eachother in circles so fast they would make lil sand tornados.

If you're gonnas try Dorado then don't plan on keeping any other fish you value with them. Mine kicked the crap out of Armatus, Cynos, and Odoes. Did it "work"? If you don't mind a tankfull of ripped up fish then yes, but if you don't enjoy Armatus with 1/2 dorsal fins and fish missing tail fins, then you seperate the Dorado.

As far as working shoals, I'm open to the idea..... Prove it to me. Mine failed just as many others' have.

Nope. "Nixon" the Armatus allready ate 1 Odoe. The Armatus is gonna have to be split up from the smaller Odoe and Cynos as he's getting relentless with the charging and eyeballing (like he's gonna try to eat more Odoe). Was trying to get the Dragon eel sold so I can ix the saltwater and use the 6x3 to get things split up.

My $.02-
I'd treat Armatus like any other apex predator like Fahakas, Dorado, and Aimara. May work with rays, and there might be some compatable fish but in the end it's a gamble and usually if it does work it's not for prolonged periods. My ticking timebomb 300 lasted about 3 very long stressfull months before I didn't feel comfortable enough to continue loosing expensive fish. Can you keep apex preds with other preds? Sure. Can you keep them with other apex preds? Sure. Is it going to eventually end badly? Probobly.

If you allready have the Odoe then go with a shoal of Tats or Rhaphs. Your Odoe will eventually thank you as they will eventually be eaten by an apex predator, or kill themselves trying to stay alive.

I'm keeping a small dorado in a 750 with a huge niger cat and some rays. I'd love to add another top dweller but have decided it best to leave things the way they are.
