Dovii are awesome and i think alot of people give them a really bad rep!
Any fish you keep by itself and then try to put in a community tank will likely kill other fish.
I have watched two Dovii grow from 2" to nearly 13" at my lfs, they are in a 5x2x2 with plenty of other Fish.
Midas are brilliant i have a small 6" one currently and i think it will do really well in your setup.
It would help a little if you posted your tank dimensions, you can get away with a 1 foot depth in a cichlid tank.

You're kidding right. If not I take it you have never owned large cichlids.
As far as dovii with tank mates. I have never had success and have never personally seen anything that has lasted long term that wasn't in very large aquaria. For those that say they have had success, pics or at least tank and fish size would be of help. The fact that there are so few pics around of large specimens in the average hobbyist tanks with tank mates says it all.

well i have 2 dovii,2 jags, butterkoferi, flowerhorn, and red terror all in together al fish are about 5-6" and they say it cant be done

This is where people fall into a trap. They see post like this without tank size stated and believe it is easy. You call the cohabitation of juvenile fish a success:confused: I bet the outcome will be very different when many of these fish attain another 10".

Id say less than another 10"...probably closer to another 5" or so.

I have 100 dovi in 30 gallon tank, so I guess you can keep dovi in a 30 gallon tank. Did I mention they are only 2 inches long? I may have to thin them out or maybe even upgrade. You think?

Wait till they hit 10"+. They will claim every single territory in the tank. Why do you think they need such large tank? It's not because they hit 20"+ and they need such a large tank. It's because they demand such large territory room. Once it hits 15" or so, especially if its a pair then they will claim a 300G all to themselves. The tank size just reduce its temper, the less territory they have the more aggressive they get. Put a 6" male or female dovii in a 20 standard and you will see a dramatic change of behavior comparing to putting a 6" in a 180G. Check around youtube, you will see some of the craziest Dovii alive. They will turn like these...a pair that claims 600G all to themselves when they have spawned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sy9APu9jE_E&feature=related
At the LFS, they seem fine like that...because they did something to it that you don't know :D. Take it home and put it into its new home...it will rampage the tank. :p
Don't be fooled...their bad rep is not a rumor. It's fact. P.S. I own a pair myself. :D

I have a pair in a 250 gallon, they live with 7 or 8 big clown loaches and three plecos, but they will not tolerate any other fish. They have been together for about 2 years. My male is around 15 inches.

we shall see

A good friend of mine had a breeding pair of Dovii AND a breeding pair of Umbriferum in a 600 gallon tank along with other CA cichlids. I think it really comes down to the body of water. When I had the pond up I had a monster mix of CA cichlids big and small...without ever a hitch.
