Well im glad somebody agrees with me lol
Well done you are the only 1
Hes not the only one that agrees with you. 95% of people do, its just not physically or fiscally possible for most people to keep anything bigger than a 220 or so gallon tank. Thats why it seems frowned upon for people to try and keep dovii in a community tank. Ive tried raising them in a 265 community at least 4 different times and every time they get over 8-10 inches, they have to be removed. They get a bad rap because they are bad...its not some myth or old wives tale.
Try all you want to do everything you are "talking" about doing. Odds are, it wont work for you for the next 15 yrs which is roughly the life span of the fish. Anyone can keep them in a tank as 1-8 or so inches, but its not a success unless its done for an extended period of time (the majority of their life, IMO.)
You think people want to keep Doviis or Umbees in a 600+ gallon by themselves? Im sure theyd love to have every fish they want in their tank, the doviis (95+% of the time) or umbees just dont allow it.
And the statement of "there would be a hell of alot of dead floating Fish in central America" is...well...ridiculous. It doesnt happen that way because there are hundreds of millions of gallons of water in their natural habitats. There are predators after them, babies to protect, fisherman, boats, locals gill netting, caves, downed trees, crevices and more for their prey to hide and get away into. To compare their aggression from the wild to a tank is silly. They are smart fish and figure out they are in a glass box and get bound and determined to take out their competition.
Sure, youll see the occasional dovii, umbee or beani in a community. Every species has its laid back ones, learning disabled ones, stupid ones, lazy ones etc. But if you go by the experiences the majority of knowledgeable fishkeepers on here have had, theyll be alone in anything less than 600 gallons as a bare minimum. If you think differently, please show us a 12+" dovii or pair living in a
NON ridiculously overstocked tank with something more than dithers or a pleco or 2. Ive only seen it done in tanks that had
WAY too many fish for them to live the way they should and have room to swim and be comfortable, so I dont count that as a success. Im not saying I have seen everything and am the know all of it and Im not saying it cant happen, Im merely saying the odds are against it, severely.
