Frank Castle they are in a 180G (6x2x2) he is starting to fill it out a bit but nowhere near ready to move. Eventually these will get the 260G ( 6x3x2 ) so they got the extra width once the cats out grown it. From there I'm hoping to set up a large tank that will have two parts, one cold one warm one will have a 2m Goonch the other a 28" male dovii and his partner

We can all dream lol

Probably get the dovii a 300G if one comes up at the right price and the cat a swimming pool in the garden.

If Dovii has blue, does tht always mean it's a male or do females get blue too?

If females get the blues...it is very light on the cheeks... else they have a prominent off creamish/yellowish hue on the body coupled with black vertical stripes
but the male have a uniform blue til the tail

it would generally suggest male if there is a lot of blue but like all cichlids they change colour quite a lot. my girls looks quite blue sometimes then in a flash she is almost bright yellow, my males blue in natural sun light looks more deep plum purple than blue.

well figured it time for an update here.







tank is overdue a complete strip ad re design but they still going strong. is is probably 16"+ i have to judge it off the plant thing which is 12"

while doing my WC i got a top view of my dovii.

now there comes a time when length isn't so important in fish growth. my dovii's seem to reach about 12" and then slowed right down but it isn't till you look at your fish from above you come to realise that length isn't everything..... the growth is mass so length and width and when you think about it the appearance of growth will slow when you only compare length. so my dovii has taken a few years to get to 16" but at over 3" wide it all becomes clear hahaha he is a big boy

the filter is 3-3.5" wide and he was sat on it after i drained the tank

well he is back on the feed, smashing half a filet of basa a night, or a slack handful of massivore.he loves his food hahaha
