Im sure somebody has asked this before so if there is a thread with info please let me know. My male dovii is around seven inches & is beginning to color up. Blues & greens in the face. Bluish green fins & so on. However some days he is very dull, no color in the fins, almost washed out. Hes very healthy, eats a lot, & I do 25% wc weekly, sometimes bi-weekly. I bought him from jeff rapps so I know hes a quality fish. I know at 7in hes still a baby so is this normal? His diet consists of massivore, tilapia, & market shrimp.

Color variation is usually a mood thing. Stress can cause fish to wash out in color. Ive seen the best colors from my fish from giving little stress, feeding quality foods, lots of water changes (100% weekly overall minnimum on all tanks), keeping solo fish or pairs only, and of course buying them from quality breeders small and raising them to adult size. A angry or dominant fish will usually intensify in color compared to others also.

Right now hes in my 75g with 3 silver dollars, a few africans that he chases around, and a clownknife. The knife will be going soon do to increasing dovii aggression. I'll try upping my wc to 100% weekly like you suggested. Thanks for the advice. Anybody have pics of an adult male from Rapps?

So massivore, talapia, and shrimp are its only diet? IMO that is not a healthy diet. Feed that guy some quality pellets. NLS, Omega1, Hikari, XTreame, There are several pellet foods out there that are far better for you Dovii than what your feeding.

Ok so I'll ditch the massivore. Stinks really bad anyways. Thanks for the tip

Just ordered a bag of X treme monster pellet. In the description it says it's prefect for dovii. Anybody have good things to say about this pellet?

Dovii's colors can vary greatly. Look at the range my old Dovii had..
