Can anyone tell me if I should remove the white eggs, Im worried they may affect the ones that are still brown. There is about a third still left that haven't gone bad. Shouldn't the female be doing that anyway? I'm trying to piece this together with random google searches and I'm not sure whether to trust any of them. By the way if they are almost on their third day can I be sure that some of the eggs have actually been fertilized by the male? Please help if you can.

Well its worth a try like they are gona breed again,so if anything goes wrong you should be back to square 1 in a few weeks.

I believe the female is supposed to fan the eggs to keep them "good" but i have never seen it just what i have heard.. GL

She's diligently fanning them. I'm still trying to figure out what's to blame for having so many of the eggs fail to stay healthy. I'm worried about picking them off, mainly because I'm not sure what the right tool for the job will be, tweezers, fingers, etc.. and im also concerned that while I'm trying to tweezer these eggs off the rock under water I am going to be having the skin ripped off my fingers by the Dovii. I may just give it a try though, maybe when she sees I left all the living eggs she can learn to pick them herself. Like the fish whisperer. Thanks for the replies, I'll let you know if anything noteworthy happens.

Doesn't look like this is the batch. The female did begin to clear the dead eggs, but she also did something with the ones that were still good. If she moved the good ones they must still haven't have been properly fertilized because there is no sign of swimmers yet. She may have ate them, unfortunately I can't be sure because I didn't see it happen. She layed them last thursday so Im not sure if it takes a full week to see fry, but I would doubt it because I don't see her watching over any areas intently. I guess barring a miracle we will try again in 3 weeks or so.

In my experience with breeding cichlids, which was Dovii for the most part,it took till the 3rd time for any of the eggs to get fertilized. I don't think the male was doing his part well enough, you have to let them keep going because they're still new to it and your male just may be inexperienced like my male Dovii was and let them learn the process. Also,i'm sure these two can cross,I've personally owned Jack Dempsey/Jaguars and that is about as close to a JD/Dovii as you can get,it'll happen in the next few tries,be patient.

I like that man, positive. Thanks for the uplift, I was getting pretty discouraged. It's great to hear from someone who's not only bred these guys but seen a hybrid of the two different types of fish I'm working with. I appreciate the post buddy, if you have any other info that will help me I'm all ears. I'll keep up with everything once they get back to business.

It's on again. This time I saw it go down and I am pretty convinced they are both trying to do their parts. I took two videos so when I figure out what type of video file I can upload I will. I would love for some experts to have a look and see what they think. For now, I've seen that both fish are active in the spawning area, swimming in circles and buzzing low over the piece of slate. The female will occasionally nip at the male and he will move over the area again. It seems like she's showing him how to do it. The bites aren't vicious, just slight. She's dropping eggs and fanning and he follows her up afterwards. Alright I'll try to post the videos tomorrow, just for my own record, today is the eighth of April, in case I'm wondering later.
