I'm curious what other Dovii owners are feeding their Dovii. Mine has become a very picky eater. He'll eat Massivore pellets but they're messy and a lot of it comes out of his gills. Every so often he'll eat Hikari Foodsticks. He's completely stopped eating NLS of any kind, and he won't touch market shrimp or frozen foods except krill.

Sometimes I can trick him into eating 7.5mm NLS pellets by squeezing one in between two Massivore pellets. After wetting them, they stick together lol but lately he'll spit out the NLS pellet and only eat the Massivore. He thinks he's a smart guy hahaha. Is he getting enough nutrition with what he's eating?

I'm curious to see the feedback in this thread, considering I just picked up a dovii. :) I tried market shrimp last night. He eventually went to look at it and then gave me the "are you kidding" look. :irked:

lol that's funny. Your Dovii is so awesome. Has he eaten anything at all yet?

ive had a tough time to get adult cichlids (including dovii) to take more than 1 or 2 kinds of food. When I had my dovii, all he would eat is hikari gold, gave all kinds of stuff and he wouldnt touch it. Still had great colour and was healthy though.

Uh, yeah, a 5" argentea. :irked: He had no other place to go and I had made him a nice rockpile to hide in if things got iffy.

He was eating both NLS and Hikari for a while. I'm thinking NLS is probably more nutritious and healthy for him in the long run. Should I starve him back onto it or let him eat what he wants?

Oh man, that sucks for the Argentea. :nilly:

Ok all you other Dovii owners, what is your Dovii wolfing down?

i have a 6 inch male that eats everything, even algae wafers. I try and feed him & my other fish something different everyday including earthworms, meal worms, crickets, market shrimp, bloodworms, cichlid sticks, freeze dried shrimp, hikari gold, flake wafers, algae wafers and 2 different kinds of food made locally at an LFS. I tried massivore and they loved it, it just stunk up my tank and house really bad so i quit using it.

Although I do not have a Dovi, my 14" jag was an extremely picky eater when kept alone. Fixed that problem real fast when I moved him to another tank gave him a new monster "roomate" in the form of a 12" Pangasius sanitwongsei. No picky eating anymore!! If he doesn't eat, the new competion surely will. Mussels, frozen raw shrimp, high quality pellets and even a spirulina based moist pellet all consumed now by the jag. Is your Dovi alone? Not sure if your tank is large enough to introduce a fish that could hold its own against it. Good luck.

massivore, 7.5 nls and lots of fresh shrimp

Well, my boy just ate about 25 massivore pellets, so I know he likes those. :) I'd like to get him on shrimp too, since I'm already buying it by the box for other fish.
