Mine eats Cichlid Gold for a staple, market shrimp, tilapia fillets, night crawlers, krill, beef heart.. and I think thats about it.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I really appreciate it.

I definitely agree that they eat better with tankmates. All mine have tankmates right now and eat whatever I put in the tank. My previous monster male would eat Hikari gold and Tetra Cichlid sticks with no problem, as well as feeder goldfish here and there.

Another post that supports the 'tankmate theory'. But how big are your Dovii? If they're not mature adults yet, I guess they could still get picky later on.

Your 13" Dovii's appetite sounds very similar to mine's. Except switch shrimp to krill. He won't eat shrimp any more. The most surprising to me is that he won't even eat night crawlers any more.

My 12" Dovii has become soo picky, he will only occasionally accept massivore, and krill. If he doesnt come out of his "hide" when I walk up to the tank at feeding time I dont feed him anything. Sometimes he will go a few days sometimes he will eat everyday for a week straight, its so up in the air.

Edit: I forgot to add that he loves bloodworms!

does yours hide from you? mine is almost 9" and he still runs and hides when i walk up tp the tank.

My is a bit picky eats a lot less than the other fish-Hikari Gold Pellets and Blood Worm but eats very little to moderate.

My dovii eats pretty good. Takes market shrimp actually loves them. Krill, pellets bloodworms and frozen beefheart. The only thing he doesnt like is the frozen silversides that feed the other fish. He will just look at them sink to the bottom.

Yours sounds similar to mine...minus a few items. I wouldn't call mine picky, but he definitely doesn't accept the varieties of food that my other cichlids eat.

my dovii eats earthworms, flakes, and the occasional pellet. mine is just a baby
