LOL! I have my 20 inch plus Dovii with that combo going on 8 years now.
I've seen pics and videos of 180 gallon tanks on here with multiple large cichlids including Dovii living together. Some video by people who are against this 250 gallon Dovii tank!? It really doesn't add up?? I own a 120 gallon which is huge in my opinion! My current 9" Dovii is a 90 and doing fine. Why wouldn't a 250 work for multiple large cichlids?? Get some big JD's, a couple Devils, maybe a nice Trimac, or Flowerhorn. Try it, just be ready to have a backup plan if things go sour.
Thing about it is those videos are just what's happening at that moment. I thought my 125 was huge. Its really not my male jag claimed it all and killed a Oscar (that at the time was a good 5 inches bigger and a whole lot thicker, a Butti, a female jack Dempsey and has shredded devils it's size. It may take years but they will eventually start picking off tank mates in tanks less than a 180 and that's just Managuense. Dovii are bigger and a whole lot more intolerant. You may think your tank is huge, it's a puddle compared to amount of water these fish are capable of claiming. I've watched my dad try and mix dovii in tanks up to 200 when I was a kid without exception it failed each and every time. More than a dozen Butti, red devils,jd, Managuense, rtm, and festae all killed. Dovii don't live long term with others they will eventually kill everything let alone a pair

pretty Jag, that Dovii look hungry, so take it only the dovii left after this. shame.
For the record, I'm new at keeping Dovii yes. I also have never owned a tank bigger than a 120 gallon. I am however no stranger to keeping big cichlids and Large catfish. I have been into this hobby for almost 20 years. I'm not suggesting any tank mates for my particular Dovii. I'm only saying a 250 gallon tank of larger cichlids would work much better than a 120, 180, or even a 200. It may work, then again it may not. Won't know for sure until you try.
