DOVII GROWTH FOOD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good food, good water, and plenty of patients, your still looking at about 4 to 5 years for him to get over 15 inch from what I have seen.
And there is the often overlooked issue of genetics. Even fish from the same batch of fry in the same conditions do not grow at the same rate.

Is there a more in depth comprehensive comparison available somewhere?

For this species, probably not. In commercial aquaculture species there should be scores of papers out there if one wants to look. Also, some species have proven to show better growth when feeding twice a day (morning/evening), others when fed 3 times a day, some species are more temp sensitive, others not, etc-etc. Lots of variables to consider if one wants to truly attempt to maximize growth. Personally I don't think that maximizing growth is the be all to end all, outside of commercial facilities, healthy growth should be the real standard that everyone should try to achieve. In that sense, feeding food that a fish can easily take in and swallow with little chewing is most ideal.

Thanks, agree 1000%.

The study below (in the results section) shows what was found in the gut of dovii in nature.
But beyond that, if you are trying to grow a dovii fast, I hope you have a tank to accommodate the fish. A 240gal tank would be what (I consider barely minimal) for an adult, and many experts feel 1000 gal tank is what should be provided to be humane
A management plan for the sport fishery of Parachromis dovii (Pisces ...
