when are dovii's sexually mature?

Around 5 maybe 6". Me female laid eggs for the first time at 3".

really wow well im getting a 240 friday and i have a 3'' male dovii right now i might try to find a female for him

would you recommend a bigger male or female or same size

If you can roughly the same size. To help the pair bond dithers can be a good idea at least till they have been together a little while. Males can be hard on females so dithers can draw some of the males attention. Males will also grow alot faster than females. My male is 18" and female only around 8" they are about the same age too.

what dithers do you recomend this one of mine is mean as hell i had two 3-4'' gold fish in his grow out tank to cycle it and make sure it was safe and he killed them. one within 12 hours the other within 36hours

Maybe like giant danio's or silver sides if your lfs sells them. Any fast swimming larger schooling fish should work.

Yea, if you dont want to go that route you can also divide the tank. Let them see each other through the divider. Give the new one time to adjust then in like a week put them together and watch them. If thing get bad then seperate and try again later.
