PERSONALLY, I don't think Dovii's should be kept in anything under 300 gallons to see the true beast as we know it. In the wild they have large territories, and in a 180 gallon tank, it just won't do them justice. I wouldn't mind building my Dovii a 500 gallon pond or bigger when he starts getting some size on himself.

When did you get a dovii? I thought you got rid of the other one? HOW MANY TANKS DO YOU HAVE?!! How come I didnt see it?

Im sure you can colour him up. I got my salvini and it was like grey haha, now its yellow, not anywhere close to some of the salvini but its not grey haha

The fish is happy, I'm not worried about it colors. Its very predatory looking, and I wouldn't doubt it could attain a size of 20"+. Hes a very bulky boy.

Hmmmm. 9 feet. Well then. What about a diagonal length? Just wondering because I have been contemplating getting my Dovii a 6'x3'x25" tank and I figured that was lots of space..... Guess the diagonal length wouldn't be much more than 6 feet. Maybe Ill build him a pond outta my room and live in my closet haha

That is a great space for a Dovii and I feel you could get away with a Dovii in ther until maybe 16" or so but thats when length because more of problem. I would say since you already going to 280 gallon tank because 6x3x25" is 280 gallons. Go with a 8 foot 240. Yeah 40 gallon less but the fish will be happier with more length to swim in.

Well I wouldn't want you to feel bad as your dovii is only what like 12-14" yet and still growing? Plus if I remember correctly you have him in a 265.

That is enough room for him for a couple more years because we all know Dovii slow down in growth alot after 14 or so inches. I am just saying if someone happens to have a 20" dovii think about how mature that fish is by this time he would be rocketing around in a riverine smashing fish down his throat but in a tank he can only swim so far and plus he is now a more powerful swimmer. He just deserves his space. My rule is the tank has to be 5-6 times longer than the fish. So a 12" fish = 6 foot. and Has to be a least 6-10 inches wider than the fishes TL.

I like the size of the 240. Just 10 minutes ago me and a coworker were talking about when we are going up to glass cages to pickup a 240. I would prefer a bigger tank, but an 8' tank is probably the biggest that I will ever own. My 240 will be used to house a Dovii and an Arowana. They are currently being grown out in a 125.

Im now thinkin you're totally right. They would be swimmin in a river. Imma go for a 8'x3'x25" tank I think... In a year or so that is haha
