Down to 5...

Yeah thanks again everyone. SickSauce I laughed pretty good at dying from too much love lol. Bassguy I will say I haven't checked my PH at all in a long time. But I don't see how it could spike or anything I change the water every Sunday and only do about 40%. I don't really know the negative effects on a major PH swing. I would think if my tap water PH changed the effects would have shown on Sunday after my water change not two days later. I could be wrong though. All my other fish are fine and seem to be acting normal. The only other thing I could think of is they beat him up. The rest of the group usually fight with each other occasionally but they all hold their ground and this particular fish was kind of a "girl Dog" as you guys call it lol. Always ran away and hid. When I found it it was upside down on the bottom between the glass and a rock so maybe they got him stuck in there or something and it died from stress trying to get out. That's the only thing I can think of at the moment.

You can have large PH swings from lack of buffering capability of your water. I have 7.8 ish PH with my tap, but it buffers poorly Kh gh. I've had mine drop to 5.5 ish when not watching, and this is with my constant 33%-50% 2-3 a week wc. My tanks on drip are the only ones that keep a steady PH.

Fish are a complex living organism like us humans, and like us, they are prone to thousands of diseases, medical conditions. Its not always about water parameter or what we feed it. This thing could of had a stroke for all we know.

Sorry for your loss :(

Hmm.. Thanks bassguy Ill check it tonight. You have me curious now.

xraycer that is a good point!

thanks khapham I got them from Snookn21 on aquabid!

Thanks fish :( this sucks

I noticed this as well. Maybe he just got beat up during the day yesterday.

Idk, because cichlids will attack another if they notice its weak or dying so I wouldn't say that's definitely the cause. He doesn't look beat up enough for that to be the cause imo.

This is exactly why I only buy bass 6" and larger. I would love to be able to grow them out as that's what I enjoy, but I'm 0 for 5 with Juvies and until I can dedicate a tank to them, I'm not gonna try it anymore.
