dragon goby question

For one of these guys to only reach 8" in 8 years seems pretty bad. I would expect one to reach at least 15", which doesn't exactly reflect well on captive care given their normal adult size in the wild but still is much better. It wouldn't be surprising to me if the stress from the extremely prolonged time in freshwater caused its growth to slow.

I had a "dragon goby" for a while. If you have a 5 gallon bucket or something of the sort you could acclimate the fish quite easily. It takes about a month to do properly.

BTW. It's a violet goby

It's kind of pointless to argue common names when they all obviously refer to the same fish.

I wouldn't recommend housing it in a 5 gallon bucket for a month. I acclimated mine in it's home with a bunch of other brackish water fish that I bought in freshwater. A 10 or 15 gallon tank could also work out for acclimating them.

Exactly! Not a proud story but I didn't know better at the time. This was about 15 years ago. One of the reasons I published an article about them.
