Dragon Goby

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Set up a brackish tank for him. Brackish is always something cool to have because its very unkown in the hobby...as far as regukar hobbyists go that is...not MFKs

Hmm, would a 55g long be good enough for life, or do they swim about more as they grow/get healthier? Mine has a corner staked out during the day, but likes to dart around at night.

:nilly: Can you also suggest some good reading on brackish species? I'm a noob in this area.

As they grow they do better in brackish. Does not see well so is not fond of bright lighting. Does not compete well against aggressive eaters and will starve. Will eat anything that fits down their throat, which is tiny relative to mouth size. Mine started at 4-5 inches eating frozen brine and bloodworms. Now at about a foot he eats small pieces of fish or shrimp. Put the food in at lights out for best luck. Eventually may come to equate lid opening with food and swim to top to eat from hand. Currently in with a columbian shark with no problems.

Dr Neale Monks recently wrote a book on BW fish, published by TFH.

or, and this is just a thought, you could set up a brackish tank for it. You posted numerous threads about how to switch salt to brackish and got multiple replies AND on more than one occasion you were informed that violet gobies do not do well in full marine. Also, the link posted does not state that they need brackish later in life. I have yet to see a site that says that. Here's a direct quote from the posted link:
Although they are not especially particular about pH, these fish must be kept
in brackish water!
Maybe you should take it back and trade it in for a fish that's easier for you to keep.

how long did it take him to grow this size?

About a year and half. Probably would have been quicker but had some stocking issues where he wouldn't eat for awhile.

craig said his goby grew from 5 inch es to alittle over a foot in 10 months ..........i hope mine grows that fast
