ok i have 2 peices of drift wood that i bought and i soaked them in viniger for 2 weeks, then blech 2 weeks and left them out in the beating hot sun for countless mounths, do yall still think they are clean enough to go in my tank??

I just don't like the idea of "soaking" it in bleach. I feel the chlorine will leach out now. The high temp will kill the chlorine. Cover you bottom oven rack with foil and put the other rack as high as you can to make the wood fit and bake them for a while. It will dry the wood out and make it float, but that is the least of your concern. The high temp of the oven/boil will kill the bleach and anything else that may linger. You can always weight the wood to get it to sink. Good luck......

Here is a link to an article that should help you.

http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/driftwood.php

I just pour boil water into a 5gallon bucket and let it soak for a week. I change out the water daily and pour in new hot water water. The article said boiling will help the tanin leach out faster. After a week I still got some tanin but it's leaching out at a acceptable level because my tank is not completely murky yellow yet.

I would put them in a sink and put the plug in and pour boiling water in and let them soak. i would do this about 5 to 6 times.i do this to my large wood.

So you spent roughly 3-4 months preparing this wood, yet none of this was the best way to do it.

Just let it sink in extremely hot water for a week, and every day during that week do a 80% water change to get rid of the tannins.

:iagree: Within a one to two weeks you should be able to use your driftwood. Hot water will make the tanins leach out faster.

The bleach soak, is a curve ball in the standard preparation of driftwood. The bleach MUST be destroyed and then the standard prep........
