Driftwood Damage?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah it could be a molding defect since it is on the outside of tank....and weene i guess youre right, there was water when the incident occured and I cant find any cracks/scratches... So its 100% not likely to dent at all ?

At room temperature or close... acrylic doesn't dent...

I would be willing to bet the existing 'dent' you have is a manufacturing flaw...

then at what temperature would acrylic dent? and 2 mods told me dents are a possibility but itd take a really heavy and hard piece to do that

as for a "temp" where acrylic could dent.... umm.. i dont have an exact number.. but somewhere just shy of the melting point... so unless you are resting a heatgun on the tank or working on it in an oven.. i dont think you really have to worry about this..

I'm under the impression that Acrylic will break, not dent, if struck by a strong enough sudden impact...

Acrylic is heated to mold... I have no clue what temps, but obviously if it's heated up it can dent...

youre right i just spoke to the guy I bought my tank from (Tenecor) and they said the worst that can happen if you drop something to the bottom is you would only scratch the surface. So i guess a dent isnt possible even from a rock, only would scratch it.

A rock or piece of wood could shatter the bottom (I found out the hard way) but you'd certainly know if that had happened. So you're free and clear!

u shattered the bottom of an acrylic tank with a piece of wood? or rock? How big was the tank and the weight of the piece that dropped?
