Try to get some with Java Fern or moss already growing on it it looks wicked very hard to get it to stick and grow yourself though.
Java ferns or any plant for that matter are easy to get rooted onto wood. find a piece that is fairly holely, and place the roots against a hole. Use a rubberband to hold them down, and in a few weeks snap the rubber band, and presto, you have plants growing on your wood. This technique is great for getting plants that send runners to root several plants along long cropings of your wood.

Ya I would think if your wanting to save some money then i would put the plants on myself.

Yeah doesn't sound that hard to do.

One other thing about attaching plants in general, it helps to clip all dead material off before attaching, ie. dead leafs, and especially dead roots.

just a note. It might be difficult to get a plant especially java moss to attach to wood in a pleco tank. it would have to be secured very well. I have a pleco tank with tons of plecos that i have tried to get java fern to attach to wood and it has been fairly difficult. Not to say that its impossible but it also seems that my plecs are also chewing on the leaves of the java fern because they are like swiss cheese. I do have over 10 different species in the tank so i dont know which one does this. im guessing the panaques are responsible.

Actually it isn't that hard to do even with plecs. My tank has tons of plants all anchored to wood. Java ferns are easy Java moss is another story. I have 9 plecs in my tank, and they do suck on the plants, but unless you have a monster common this shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure each plant is getting adequette light, a good source of CO2 and some fertalizer. If all your parameters are good, then the plants will grow faster than even a large plec could eat them.

When you say that the plecos are eating holes in your plant, it is actually more likely that they have a lack of minerals to grow off of, or your lights are not intense enough for the species, or you have a shade lover in direct light. Plecos, Labeos, Chinese algae eaters, corys, etc. will just eat the algae off the plants. if they eat the plants themselves either its a tasty plant or they aren't getting enough to eat. Give them cucumber or whatever floats or sinks your boat. They will love it and so will your plants.
