True....How common are 65 watt compact bulbs and where can I get some at a decent price?

65 is the more common size of PC bulb. Coralife makes a good light, that runs 2 65 watt bulbs in a 48" fixture.

I have 4 ballasts already for straight pin 65 watt compacts. 2 are for my new 40 gallon set up.

Those will work fine, just need to get a couple bulbs and a good reflector.

pretty much any fern will do, try some bolbitis it works good and is a low light plant, also many types of annubias work well and then any moss yo can find.
when you attach the ferns use those vinyl coated wires used to tire gabage bags.

I used a white high gloss acrilix latex paint for my 40 gallon canopy and I have a bunch left. I plan to use that for a reflector.

Don't use those twist ties, if left too long, they can actually damage the plants. Black cotton thread is the best, as it will just disintegrate over time.
