DRIP SYSTEMS Success & Failures

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would drip into the tanks, clean water where you want it. and drain from the sump, excess dirty water goes out.

i have a well so no change inwater bill. i was dripping to fast and it caused my tank temp to drop down to 70degrees. i just turned the drip rate down and the temp came back up.

+1

My bill stayed the same too. I was watering the trees and bushes anyway now I water them with fishy water. No additional cost.

Heads up everyone. I was using a float valve to turn off the new water when my sump gets too full. The sump filled almost to the top the other day. The valve worked and shut off the new water but a few hours later i herd a loud pop. My line had built up so much pressure from being shut off that it poped out of the float valve. Luckly i was home or i would have had a flooded office. Hahaha

Good to know, thanks for contributing to the thread  especially when things go wrong. We need to keep other members aware of what can go wrong too.

Wow, close call!

What kind of supply line and connection was it?
Did you use a ferrule (assuming it was a compression fitting)?
What brand of float valve?
How long had it been hooked up?

Has anyone tapped into a copper line then into PVC for the dripper? I am thinking of doing what was mentioned and dripping into each tank maybe 20 25 tanks total. Anythoughts on this? Also does anyone have links to the different types of drippers and cost? Thanks

what exactly do you mean ray "tap into a copper line then into PVC" ? Whatever you tap whether copper of pvc doesn't matter but from there it will either run directly to the tanks themselves or to a central system. I got my drippers from HD in a bag of 5-10 for under $5-10 I recall. Everything is to setup a system is relatively cheap, most expensive part from mine was the DI carbon unit ($100)

I am shocked that more ppl aren't doing these setups given the time they save as well as I think they are safer (less effect of water params as well as less stressful on the fish)

IMO ;)

Thanks Lopaka that helps. Anyone have pics of multiple tank drippers? like more then 5? Curious to see more pics of mulitple tanks.

I had a close call this morning,i put an over flow in my sump to drain the excess water out side, some how a bio ball got stuck on it stopping the flow, water was at the very top of my sump if I didn't check it this morning I would of had a bad afternoon lol

Check out my post on page 4 of this thread. I just added my fourth tank to my drip system.
