Drop eye already!

Its just a theory but it does happen to South American Arowana in tanks a lot but not in ponds as far as I know. Ive also heard from some aro forums that putting a drop eye fish in a pond quickly will often fix it so the theory has a lot of basis.

I wonder if using mirrors as lid covers on tanks will reduce DE?

Well i personally think that there is a lack of activity on top of them..and hence they start looking downwards..

sell it and get a black :D

does he take food from the bottom of the tank ?
is your tank bright lit or dim i always keep my tank bright

so far i have had 10 asian aros and not one has ever got drop eye i never let the aros take food from the bottom just throw one bit of food in at a time

i also have lots of tank mates including rays which are always on the bottom so tank mates is not the problem

i know many will disagree with this but i am starting to think that drop eye has something to do with salt food like prawn mussel and cockel

i know black and jars dont get drop eye as much but maybe the are not afected buy salt as much as silvers

out of 10 aros you would expect at least one would have drop eye

my tiger/dats use to rub them selfs on the gravel filter pipes after feeding on prawn since they have been feeding on pellet and meal worms no more rubbing on stuff

i have always fed my aros on just meal worms gut loaded on pellet never prawn or salty foods

the main foods people seam to feed their silver aros on is salty foods not insects

anything coming out of the ocean is going to have a lower concentration of salt in the tissue than the surrounding water. think about osmosis.

freshwater meat has the higher concentration of salt in the tissue not seafood.
