Most will disagree with diet. What happens if ya feed feeders to an arowana in a pond:screwy:

One of my silver aros, which I raised from a fry and was never fed and feeder goldfish or other "fatty foods". It made it to 18" with no signs of DE. While transferin for on tank to another the arowana went crazy slamming itself into the side of the tank several times. Within hours of being place in the new tank the DE was present in it's right eye.

Four to five months later the aro was about 23" and in a 180g tank with another 25" silver. While cleaning the tank both aros became spooked and trashed throughout the tank. Later that evening it was appearent that the silver now had DE in it's left eye also. There is no doubt in my mind that the repeated head trauma that silvers experience while being kept in tanks leads to DE.
:iagree: , the pond thing was pretty funny though .

For the head injury and DE there seems certainly a correlation, though i must say that one of the silver aro that i have developed DE very gradually. First the eyes were bulging then it slowly started to resemble DE. I can't attribute DE in my aro (only one out of three silver have it - not that severe yet) to injury cause i have never seen it bang out the tank - it does dart sometimes.

I donot feed my aros goldfish. Fry from fish farm in the past (cichilids, catfish etc), but now i feed frozen prawns, frozen crickets and hikari floating pellets (frogs sometimes) - so i don't think it is fatty food either

i had my silver arowana for about a year he was about 18" when i had to get rid of him :( because he was going to outgrow my 125 gal and my parents (in my opinion) were mean and wouldn't let me upgrade to a bigger tank (when they said they would let me:confused:)

also, he would jump out of the water when i tried to net him....... so i figured it would be easier to move him when he was 18" than to wait a year and move him when he was 24+":(

i will get another silver once i get my 300 gal or bigger tank (either if i have to get rid of my 55 and my 125 gal, or if i have to wait until i move out and get my own house;))

What size are your aros, what size tank have they been raised in?

my silver is 16" long, has been raised in a 180 and fed strictly hikari pellets and krill and it has slight dropeye.

Currently, the three silvers that i have are all in the 7' aquarium (with jar and green). One with no DE was there originally with jar and arapaimas (gone to bigger set-up) and two (along with green) came from a 6' aquarium (one has a DE on right side ... gradually developed it ... not so severe yet). None seemed to be jumpers ... though they can be skittish sometimes.

Water parameters are good except perhaps nitrates go up 40-50 from time to time hehehe too much feeding

All three aros are either pushing 20" or in low 20" now. There is a latest thread in aro section with update on my silvers.

What about yours?
