Ithought all aros eventually get it. What causes it?

Its similar to how a straight guy is when you're walking towards a female. his eyes automatically gravitate at three things: her face, her bumps, and her hump. Face and bumps is interchangeable but bumps always come last. Its almost instinctive and seems like guys doesn't have a choice.

Its a good analogy for the cause of drop eye in arowanas because by nature you are a top level swimmer. You cant really look up because I don't think fish doesn't have that capability. You can look straight but you will only see a fish similar to you, a top level swimmer. So what do you do? You look at the mid and bottom level fish. Its almost instinctive and seems like the fis doesnt have a choice.

Get it?

no one knows for sure what is the cause, but i think a large portion is due to to much inbreeding on the farms...or injury/ crashing into the side of the tank when startled or jumping out...ect. i don't think i have ever seen an asian aro without de! alot of sites, people that have owned, lfss say jardini aros kill tankmates(with a few exceptions..like everything ever done there is always exceptions.). what ever floats your boat, try it if it doesn't work then you know...THEN YOU KNOW for yourself and not based on the judgements of others! ex....MOST people say 2 bgks are a bad mix...i have 2 no problems so do several others on this site. rules are made to be broken!..or they wouldn't have been made in the first place!

the asian aros iv seen get DE usually is from jumping and hitting there head

I have heard about Droop Eye, is caused by food falling to the bottom of the tank?

Droop Eye is NOT caused by Arowana looking down or feeding off the bottom of the tank!

The scientific cause of Droop Eye is a fatty deposit build up behind the eyes of the fish, this is caused by over exposure to light, high stress levels, poor diet or any combination of these. To avoid droop eye, make sure you keep the fish in good condition, calm and balanced nutrition. Some fish are genetically more susceptible than others

i copyed and pasted this so dnt quote me on it! lol
this is the site i got it off!

hope it gets better 4 ya!!

Wow a whole internet worth of information or misinformation. You guys should at least search some of the DE threads here on MFK.

sbuse check the link the matty provided, go tothe gallery. Lots and lots of pics of asian aros, no DE.

Still have yet to see document "sceintific proof" that the tissue accumilated behend the eye is fat. Not just some quote from a site that has less info on the subject then the one your currently on.

saw the link seems like only a few diff. fish from diff. angels...seen alot with and with out de..either way still more then blacks or jardinis. but also to prove both sides of the case there is no info on the fish with or without de have had injurys or diet or bloodline(in reference to lenth of time with inbreeding). i have yet to find the evidience to prove one reason over the other clear cut, but my genetics opinon is still my main reasoning(have seen more prof. in it). not only in aros but in all animals with defects. in the wild the defective are "cleaned out" and the strong survive. as people we tend to protect the weak in both the animal world and our own. this will result in the disruction of everything we as people try to "help" including ourselves. we will eventually figure out the cause of de, but until then the opinons will soar...as they should! as i said before the fish is not lost due to de... still an awsome fish.

My 7" green aro already has more de than your silver. My 10" red aro seems to be okay so far but if it happens, oh well. I don't think there is much you can do about it so just enjoy your nice fish.

i have spent hours and hours reading posts and sites inculding this one. this is how i come to my conclutions...i try not to put my $0.02 in if i don't have atleast $5 of research in but thats a drop in the hat of the mass of info to be found on the web.
