  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all the encouragement guys- hopefully it goes well- I need to come up with a good sized window- the way I figured it, the window might be the only outlay of money on this project

How big will the tank be? Will it be strong enough to hold all the water?

Right now its 78"x27"x25" but to have the front straight across the width would have to be cut down to 22" which should be about 200g- after its siliconed and bolted every couple of inches I plan on a subfloor to keep the weight off the lip and build the box very tightly to the plastic- maybe even glue it to the plastic like the freezer had

Could work, maybe. I would go with two tanks instead of one. It's gonna be a hassle getting the two together in a way that will be strong enough. I know you will brace it, but that's alot of water for a two piece tank. Just my $0.02

as it sits I just mocked it up with 1/4" hardware but Im thinking about running strips under the hardware to disperse the bolts- I had thought about fender washers( 1" ODx 1/4" ID) but the lips arent big enough for them without hanging over- so its strips or just flats and of course liberal use of GE 1 silicone
If I made 2 tanks then Id have 2 100g tanks- but if i made 1 tank....

I stand corrected. Looks good. Thats alot of bolt work. With strips and framework it should hold the water, but how will you mount the glass? Will the cut side be the front or the top?

yeah yeah yeah.. i know i need to come over.. i keep doing that thing every day and then im tired when i get home.. not rubbing it in... just ya know... sayin...

im thinkin that laying them on their backs and doing 2 viewing windows on the sides will be better/cheaper than trying to get our hands on a 78x25ish hunk of glass/acrylic

dont cut anything yet

also im bring a clange of clothes with me tomorrow... that way i can come over after work without having to go home first.. this way we can have a lil "chet and jj" time or something...

I was hoping to make the cut side the window and cut 2 holes in the top like a regular acrylic tank- but it certainly seems easier to put the mismatched side up and cut 2 holes into the front
